Little Kellen (Whitman County Family Photographer)
This little boy reminds me so much of my son when he came home (almost 7 years ago), probably because of his thick blond hair. Have you ever seen such thick blond hair on a baby, I ask you? This baby, luckily, does not have a wicked case of torticollis (like my son did) . Yes, my little guy was quite the crooked fellow. I am happy that this little guy can just snuggle sweetly with his Momma and never worry about such a thing as fixing a crooked neck.

These sweet tender moments pass so quickly.
My boy is 7 years old now, and I swear I was snuggling him up like this just last week.
Tick tock, tick tock.
What a sweet treasure.

Last of the Littles - Whitman County Newborn Photographer
My time in Utah, the land of perpetual babies, is over. I can't believe the great opportunities that presented themselves to me in the form of brand spankin new babies just waiting to be photographed! There is no shortage of babies in that state, this is a fact. My last trip to Target (peace be upon that glorious store) yielded pregnant lady sightings in the double hands... like 7 or 8 of them. In the same store! At the same time!
It was so very nice to get the amount of practice that I did during my short stay in the Beehive State. Thank you, dear people, who let me hum and haw and try to work my way through a newborn photo session with your wee ones.
This little man, however, is the Last of the Littles for a while...
Due to time constraints, diapers, nursing and all manner of newborn-typical delays, I ended up with no more than 35 minutes total to shoot. If I had not been leaving the state just days after our time together I would have certainly rescheduled for another chance. But it was nice to see how much I could get done in a short time.
Note to self: Be prepared to spend three hours minimum at a newborn shoot, and don't be surprised if you have to return to get the shots you want.
I'm confident now that I can do a newborn shoot well, in fact, I think from now on I will feel very comfortable charging the full session fee for a newborn package (gasp). I'm not saying this is my specialty. Oh no. Lots of work. Lots of planning. Lots of sweat. but they really are sweet, aren't they? And what a blessing to capture their newness before it disappears (all too quickly).
Thank you, dear Utahns, for being so good at what you do! Such beautiful little babies come of all that multiplying and replenishing... A+ I say. A+ indeed.

Baby Girl - Whitman County Newborn Photographer
Newborn sessions are always a lot of work for me. I am sweating bullets by the time a session is over, and not just because it's so hot. These babies make me work! This little one slept the entire time, though... a first for me. In fact, when I went through and edited I lamented the fact that I didn't capture a single awake photo. I love the results, though, and I'm happy I had a bit of advance notice so I could knit up some accessories.
And, in case you happen to visit this little photoblog of mine from time to time, you will notice that it is a work in progress.
If I were more on top of things, I would finalize the entire site in a separate location, then unveil the new and improved product in one giant sweep, complete with a red carpet and refreshments. But. Alas. I am a work in progress sort of girl. Keep checking back and one day it will be exactly how I have imagined it in my head. Ha.

Baby Karen (Pullman area Newborn Photographer)
This is baby Karen, expressing her opinion about being the subject of a photo shoot.
Being that Karen is a little older than other newborns I've photographed (1 month old here), I was expecting a more alert baby. But this... well... she was not happy about the situation. It was very warm, very cozy, she was fed and rested. But she would have nothing to do with with posing, shaping, molding or coaxing, and certainly nothing to do with me or my lens.
Until her Momma stepped in. When she had phycial contact with her Mom, Karen was calm and happy. Her Mom was my college roommate for two years. Her Mom has six other children. Her Mom has gone through the solitary life of being a wife to a medical student. Her Mom is amazing, one of my Motherhood heroes.
Karen just wanted her Mom.
She also could have used a cute hair piece or two... but being that this session was very last minute and took place right after Christmas, I had no prep time to purchase or make any. Sigh. She is beautiful nonetheless. A beautiful baby, happy in her Mother's arms.
If you knew Corinne she would be your hero too.

Baby Jude (Pullman area Newborn Photographer)
Simply baby.
In experimenting with newborns and finding what style suits my talents the best, I'd have to say I think I'm a bit of a purist. Simply baby. I need to branch out and try new poses, new props, different set ups, and I do... but ultimately I always end up with... simple.
Mostly I just try to avoid the urge to snuggle up on the couch with them and take a nap...This little guy may or may not have started my baby hormones twitching again, I'm not sure.

What a lovely Christmas baby Jude will have with all those people around to love him. What a lovely Christmas all those people will have, being able to love baby Jude.

Utah Children Baby Photographer (Baby Ellie)
This shoot was done last Spring. Baby Ellie is close to my heart because she, like my daughter, spent the first months of her life being loved by nannies in an orphanage in Ethiopia. There is a special place in Heaven for the nannies who care for orphans. I am sure of it.
I always offer discounted services for recent adoptive families, see my website for details.

Utah Newborn Photographer. Baby C.
Melissa was my roommate in college for two years. We ate a lot of hamburger helper and ice cream. She makes really cute babies, her husband helps out in this department, providing the dark hair and complexion. This little guy is their fifth and last. I'm so excited that I was able to do these photos for her. I was afraid I would get all baby hungry again, but I came home and slept all night and was glad.
